NBC to Produce Reality Show About Reality Show Viewers

Los Angeles, CA- Sources have confirmed that Paul Wiley, second cousin to “Survivor” producer Mark Burnett, is in talks with NBC to create a new reality show centered around people who watch reality shows.

“At first I thought the idea was a bit over the top”, Wiley said in a news conference Friday. “But once I found out what a cash-cow this reality bandwagon is, I decided it was my duty to hop-on and provide the public with some fresh and original programming. This show will provide viewers with the opportunity to temporarily escape their mundane day-to-day existence, and live vicariously through the mundane day-to-day existence of strangers.”

Although still in its initial planning stages, the show will focus on lonely, unpopular, exceptionally beautiful singles, as they sit on their couch watching various reality programs. During commercial breaks they will take on certain challenges, such as predicting who will leave broken-hearted on The Bachelor’s Most Intense Rose Ceremony Ever, or estimating how often product placement will occur on The Biggest Loser.

Wiley does acknowledges the fact that logically, it would be unlikely for an attractive female or male (between the ages of 21-29) to spend night after night alone watching TV. However he believes it is a small detail the viewers will overlook.

“We know it seems far-fetched, but based on the results from our marketing research survey, we have found that the public favors good-looking people, or at least those who will be good-looking if they lose the weight. They aren’t as keen on the frumpy, androgynous types more prone to this type of socially-awkward behavior.”

Because it is expected to be such a hit, the actors will be required sign a confidentiality agreement, preventing them from leaking any information to the public before the season airs.

“Let’s face it. There are people out there who are obsessed with Reality TV. We need to give these people a voice, and provide an accurate, honest depiction of them. Because no matter how boring they may be, they still matter.”

“We just need to play up their looks a bit, especially during sweeps.”

The new series is expected to air on NBC this fall.
