New Rumsfeld Memo Leaked

Another Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld private memo has been leaked by an anonymous intern within the White House. In it, Rumsfeld expands on his earlier memo, which questioned whether the war in Iraq could ever be won. In one of the more introspective portions of the memo, Rumsfeld asked if his and the President's obsession with the former Iraqi leader is due to 'Saddam envy'.

"Are we only focused on Saddam because of the power he wielded? He could have a man killed at whim. We have to use the pretense of war. He had palaces and women and absolute authority. We have to ask Congress for money and pander to the sissy American people, who love to watch war movies but turn yellow when a few soldiers die. One could even argue that the movies are more real than the situation in Iraq. Could the Matrix be real? Could I actually be The One?"
In a different vein, Rumsfeld wondered if, in their enthusiasm for war, they should have used the weapons of mass destruction tactic to swing the public behind them.

"Did we do the right thing with the weapons of mass destruction argument? We wished so hard for it to be true that we began to believed it ourselves. Would it have been better to fabricate a story that would have been harder to disprove?" Rumsfeld also worried over how the future would view the Iraqi war. "Will history judge us as war mongers whose ineptitude and stupidity divided the world? Will there even be a future to judge us? Who can we start to blame now?" Some congressional leaders are questioning whether Runsfeld is showing signs of mental instability. Rep. Dick Gephardt, D-Mo., himself well acquainted with irrational thinking, asked, "Do we really want a Defense Secretary who has a love-hate relationship with Saddam Hussein? Even if he is kind of cute with that mustache and uniform? Next thing you know we'll have some kind of Prince Charles unmentionable-allegation-quasi-homo-media-frenzy thing going on."
