A sense of individuality is forever a must among teens, especially these two nearly identicals.
KLAMATH FALLS, OR - Local Goth Sara Weaver shocked onlookers in a daring expression of individuality Thursday as she arrived for classes at Klamath Falls South High School dressed like the 49 other gothic students currently enrolled at the school.
Weaver, a junior at KFS and self-described nonconformist and social martyr, drew a sea of admiring stares as she conformed to the clothing and makeup style of one of the most well-known social cliques on the campus of 234 students. "I'm secure in who I am, so I have to do something different with myself to prove it," said Weaver adding, "I don't want to look like everybody else you know, I am me you know."
The current gothic garb at KFS includes madam butterfly face paint with features accentuated by black, mime-like makeup, stark jet black hair, all black clothing with chrome-studded bracelets, accessory chains, vinyl or leather boots, and black nail polish. "Sarah came out looking like the real thing today," said Andrew Runion, a 3-month KFS goth. Runion added that the availability of all the gothic clothing and accessories one could ever need at the local Claire's and Gap stores helps make nonconformity readily accessible to everyone.
While most sources saw Weaver's move as courageous, others simply didn't notice. "Sara Weaver is a goth now? [I] didn't notice. It's hard to tell them apart," said long-time conformist Walt Randall, of the minority conformist clique.
Other oppressed, minority conformists also reported that Weaver's newfound individuality would make it hard for them to distinguish her from the rest of the goths. "Jock" Dave, who had long thought Weaver "cute" admits "I thought she was out sick. If she's in with the goths I'm not sure I'll be able to spot her now, you know, on account of how original she's decided to be."
"It's not just about what you wear. It's about standing up and being noticed," said Weaver or some other goth to reporters. "I refuse to be labeled, and so do all of the other goths in the crowd I've melted in to."
Guess which one is the subject of our story? Can't tell? That's because she's so unique she simple melts in to the back drop.
