On Cultural Conservatism: Lose a Uterus-Get a Job

"Learn our language or leave!" If you've said this before you are a conservative. And conservatives are no fun. I waited tables with a middle aged woman who when not in her work uniform followed the hippie dress code very closely, decked out in patches, bell bottoms and a paisley 'do rag to go with her hemp necklace.

One particularly busy evening in the kitchen she storms in yelling at the dishwasher with whom she puts little to no effort in communicating effectively and then storms back out, her last words, "These people need to learn English or leave.

This is the problem with our country". Easy for her to say. I'm sure she hardly considers it a privilege to be able to stay in her birth country, with her immediate family within driving distance, get a job without trekking for miles through an infernal desert while carrying her dehydrated cousin halfway before realizing the corpse is just holding her back and then have to dodge bullets all before even printing out her resume.

First of all if it's so important for one to be able to scold someone that only speaks Spanish, why not learn a little yourself? Second of all, don't be such a d-bag.

Basically the common opinion of those frustrated with this language barrier is that it is the immigrants' responsibility to learn our language before they arrive in "our" country and otherwise they shouldn't even find it worthwhile to do whatever it takes in order to keep their family fed.

Is it not our responsibility as a melting pot, founded so adamantly on human rights (like the freedom of speech) to embrace these cultural differences. And by embracing them we would help those assimilate by giving way to an evolving culture and language.

Otherwise, we must adopt a conservative outlook that says "society, culture and language should always stay them same because that's good for some reason."

Imagine if we never evolved. Imagine if we still spoke Old English, or worse yet an even more limited archaic language like Sanskrit. Complex ideas would be even harder to get across.

Also, what if we never bred with any other race, we'd still have those long ass noses or maybe we'd be like the tiny people they keep finding in the ice. If we didn't evolve culturally we'd still be pus ridden and smell like dog crap.

But then again, there are the obvious drawbacks of choosing to embrace progress: no longer can we enjoy the convenience of convincing minorities to be our slaves, instead of a quick and gentlemanly duel there are a bunch of hoops we have to jump through now in the name of "justice", and not only is rape no longer acceptable but baby-makers like myself are littering the workforce.

Now that I've gone through this latter list I'm beginning to understand why the conservation of everything is important.

Screw efficiency. I don't like the word "walking". It's too short. We used to call it "perambulating" and it needs to stay that way. We've got to keep the "e" in "olde". It's cute and I like it. I am also a little concerned about the spelling of the word "okay" as I can sense people are trying to shorten it. Moving on, there's the issue of the feminine mis-take. Am I right people? (Mistake is a play on the word "mystique", in case you don't understand hilarious jokes).

First of all it wasn't enough that women got what they wanted-to stop mopping and start toiling over quick-books and wearing pants like men but then they had to start nagging about their pay. Instead of insisting on equal remuneration and then taking several months off for some R&R and shameless face stuffing gluttony (while being pregnant), these women should either get a hysterectomy before employment or not get a job.

That is why I am periodically unemployed, because I have principles! AND while I'm at it, it's true, not everybody has the same natural rights, sometimes, depending on the circumstance, one gives up their rights in order to live and feed a family. So on second thought, conservatism is a show of maturity, wisdom and being an old person like your grandpa who still tips the waitress at Friendly's a shiny sixpence.
