LAS VEGAS, Nv. --Buoyed by high prices and corporate control in the conventional mortuary industry, a local Egyptian man has launched an alternative enterprise – one that’s as old and mysterious as the Pyramids themselves.
Muhammad’s Mo-Bettah Mummies, Nevada’s only full-service mummification business, opened last summer, and so far business has been booming. Low-prices, friendly service and a sense of perpetuation have attracted customers to Mo-Bettah Mummies in droves.

“People are tired of the costs associated with traditional internment,” said Fakhari. “A funeral service can easily cost tens of thousands of dollars. For what? The gravesite is rarely visited, the body decomposes in a year, and the memories fade.”
“We offer an alternative,” continued Fakhari. “Imagine having Grandpa or Uncle Joe with the family long after their demise. Guilt about never visiting the cemetery is replaced by the peace of mind knowing your loved-ones are always nearby.”
Mo-Bettah Mummies offers a wide variety of mummy packages to suit most budgets, from neutral designs to fit any décor to elaborate custom creations. Customers can choose from dozens of pre-fabricated models on their show-room floor, or can fashion their own creations “A-La-Carte” at company’s online store. There are lots of accessories, including custom lighting, laser-imaging from any photo, and E-Z hide-away casters.
“And,” adds Fakhari, “the mummy traditionalist can work side-by-side with one of our mumgineers to create their own design, just like the Pharaohs did.”
Reaction to Mo-Bettah Mummies has been phenomenal. In just 11 months the company has mummified over 200 Nevada residents from as far away as Reno and Carson City.

Despite working in a craft thousands of years old, the company has responded to modern consumer needs.
“A lot of our customers have mobile homes,” said Fakhari, “and they spend a good part of the year driving around the country. The mummy cases took up too much space. So, we came up with our See America Mummy-Trailer series. The case snaps into a featherweight adapter kit, complete with wheels and towing hookup. You just hook it on and away you go!”
Fakhari admits that mummies aren’t for everyone. “There are many people that are uncomfortable with the concept,” he says. “And certain religions require a burial. But if you believe in the family unit, and family values, we’re here to help keep the family together.”
